Trauma Responses

TWN logo ideas.png

Trauma affects each person differently, and our bodies and minds respond in unique ways. In this video, we explore common trauma responses—such as fight, flight, freeze, and fawn—and how they show up in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Understanding these responses can help you recognize what’s happening inside and find ways to feel safer and more grounded. This compassionate guide offers insight and practical tools for healing and self-awareness on the path to recovery.

Part of a series on trauma, this video covers the four basic trauma responses, and why they happen automatically, not by choice. In this video: • Fight: moving toward the threat, which can look like snapping or a sudden bad mood. • Flight: getting out physically, mentally, or emotionally, including dissociation. • Freeze: shutting down, unable to think, decide, or speak clearly. • Appease (also called fawn): smoothing things over and trying to keep everyone happy. • How these responses can show up years later, and why awareness is the first step to healing. Good for anyone who wants to understand their reactions with more compassion.
